Like most vetrans who saw much action he didn’t say much. Dad, A Lt. Col. was a member of Third Army,8th corps, AntiAircraft, his insignas were the circled A and crossed motars. I suspect the honours could be for: being part of the organization leading up to the landing at Normandy, actions at Normandy. Liberating Oldorf Nord, Dad was there for 4-6 weeks including Ike’s tour.He establised and mantained the copper communication lines into and out of Bastogne. However I don’t know anything for certian, like I said Dad didn’t talk about his medals. One of his immidiate commanders was Col. Wolf. After Normandy Dad’s unit(8th corps) basically followed the Rine intil the Buldge when it was destroyed as a unit.(The 8th’s listed on the memorial on the hill over looking the battlefield, the family visited it in 72′). At the end of the war he was stationed very near “Stalin’s” troops.

I have sent for his records, however the pentagon tells me they were lost in a fire. Any ideas out there?

I just learned that my grandfather won a bronze star in WWII. My dad doesn’t know what it was for and most of the family who would know has passed away. Is there somewhere / someone I could write or e-mail to find out this information?
Unfortunatly, Grandma passed away years ago, and apparently did not keep any of his records.

Well I will show my ignorance here but here it goes. My father fought during WWII in the pacific. I wasn’t born till almost 20 years later 1960. Dad died 20 years ago and I never did ask him any of these questions. And he never really spoke too much of his time there. Here is what I do know, He was a medic in the army, he was about 5 years older than most the other guys who where fighting there, he was 23 when he went in, most the others were 18-19 they called him pop. He faught in The Phillippean and New Gueane. My question is, is there anyway I can get more details about him, like what was the number of the (hear where I will show my ignorance) plattoon or battalean or whatever it is or is called, What battles he fought in, what medals he earned if any. My mom says he had medals but she doesn’t know what happened to any of them or to his uniform. Said it just never occured to her to save any of it! By the way I still have my mom, she is 87. She however doesn’t remember

My grandfather served in WW2 with the Army air corps. He told my dad that he was going to share his stories about the war, but was unable to do so due to a stroke. I do know that he served in the South Pacific. Austrilla and somewhere eles. I want to find some of the people her served with and maybe get some records. Or even possibly chat with some men who served with the Army Air corps.
