i would say the human resource command if he was active duty it would be in Virginia or Indianapolis, and if he was a reservist it would be in st. Louis, mo.

Check with the county Recorder’s office where he lived. Perhaps he registered his service records or DD-214 there. It’s a long shot, but worth the effort.

I’m in the same predicament with my father’s records – went up in the fire.

What they have been telling everyone is to check with VA and other agencies. A partial reconstruct can happen that way and, of course, they’d like copies of whatever you find.

I didn’t find much but the Army isn’t contesting anybody’s “family information” about anyone in that group, either.

I went to my local courthouse and they directed me to the correct office that could send out a letter for my grandfather’s records from Korea. You can start there if you have the time.
