i would say the human resource command if he was active duty it would be in Virginia or Indianapolis, and if he was a reservist it would be in st. Louis, mo.

GOLDA

Check with the county Recorder's office where he lived. Perhaps he registered his service records or DD-214 there. It's a long shot, but worth the effort.

DREW

I'm in the same predicament with my father's records - went up in the fire.

What they have been telling everyone is to check with VA and other agencies. A partial reconstruct can happen that way and, of course, they'd like copies of whatever you find.

I didn't find much but the Army isn't contesting anybody's "family information" about anyone in that group, either.

LAWRENCE

I went to my local courthouse and they directed me to the correct office that could send out a letter for my grandfather's records from Korea. You can start there if you have the time.

DRAKE

You can get his service records from the National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis, MO. I have linked their page below - the application process is outlined under a link in the center middle of the page.

Check the link under "Fire of 1973" there will be another link on that page for "Alternate Sources". This should give you some suggestions as to where you can look if his file cannot be reconstructed from the archives.
